Underground Greenhouse
About the Project
The SILO Project Greenhouse is officially 45% complete! Thanks to our early supporters, Gayle Borst,
CR Sinderud, and our many dedicated and resilient volunteers. We have broken ground, completed the massive excavation, packed over 800 tires with clay, reinforced the primary subterranean walls, and have inserted sliding glass windows and doors. All load bearing walls are finished and the steel framing is up.
How to Help
We are looking for donations to fund our next major construction phase (roofing and glazing). Every contribution brings us closer to a completed greenhouse. As a thank you, donations over $500 secure a seat at our exclusive first dinner event hosted right inside the underground greenhouse! You can use the donation button below to make a contribution towards the project. All donations are tax-deductible.
Benefits of an Underground Greenhouse
Have you ever envisioned growing vegetables year-round in the Texas heat? By building below the frost line, the underground greenhouse utilizes the earth's natural thermal mass. The architectural choice keeps the interior warm during freezing winters and cool during summer peaks without relying on fossil fuels. We are building a highly resilient, year-round growing hub for the community. Once completed, the greenhouse will be open to the public and will host educational workshops bringing year-round, the underground greenhouse will be available to anyone with independent projects.
